HISTORY

903rd Infantry (FIGHT & DEFEND) Brigade, 9th Infantry SPEAR) Division, Philippine Army was organized effective 01 December 2008, in compliance to HPA Letter Directive. The said Brigade was activated pursuant to GO Nr 06 H9ID, PA dtd 16 January 2009. 903IBde is under the stewardship of COL AUDIE G DELIZO O-8541 INF (GSC) PA, PMA ‘82 as the Officer-in-charge. COL DELIZO is the first man who led the troops in its first step of making history. The brigade was deployed in Masbate being designated as Task Group Masbate to give force protection to the contingents of RP-US BALIKATAN EXERCISES 2009. Despite his short stint as Officer in Charge, COL DELIZO ably performed his duties excellently and efficiently in the day to day administration and operations of the unit. The brigade successfully accomplished its assigned mission in protecting contingent of the RP-US BALIKATAN EXERCISES in 2009.

           This Brigade has successfully delivered assigned tasks and has retained remarkable accomplishments while at Masbate. After a month or more, 903IBde again transferred from its location to Camp Canuto, Sagurong, Pili, Camarines Sur for the purpose of Brigade Pre-Deployment Training which is undertaken as of the present. More so, this unit is preparing for its fast approaching deployment to its projected Area of Responsibility.

The unit was officially on full “operational status” and assumed its new area of responsibility (AOR) on 01 June 2008 and occupied the former Municipal Hall in Brgy Poblacion, Castilla, Sorsogon as its new headquarters. The new area of operations of the unit covers the Provinces of Sorsogon and Masbate with the mission to conduct Internal Peace and Security Operations. The year 2010 is probably the most challenging years with the unit having been designated as the main effort in clearing a “priority area”, the entire province of Albay. Pressed with a tight operational timetable that is anchored on PGMA’s guidance to render the CTM to inconsequential level by June 2010, the unit is confronted with a gargantuan task full of optimism and resolve.

            During the stint of COL JOSELITO P BERNARDO INF (GSC) PA, from 08 January 2010 to 14 January 2011, the brigade was adjudged as the 2nd best brigade of the Philippine Army and best brigade of 9ID for the 4th quarter in ISO accomplishment for CY 2010.

For the period, the brigade and OPCON units have conducted a total of 7,636 various combat operations resulting to twenty four (24) engagements and resulted to the neutralization of twenty (22) CT personalities; twelve (12) of which were killed (body counts) in the decisive encounter against our operating forces; two (2) WIA, seven (7) captured/apprehended and One (1) surrendered. With a total of fifty one (51) firearms recovered, seventeen (18) are HPFAs and thirty (33) LPFAs. Our efforts in dismantling the Private Armed Groups in 2010 election resulted to the recovery of fifty (50) HPFAs and seventy three (73) LPFAs. These FAs were recovered during raids and some were turned-over by politicians in the area.

           At present, on November 2012, the Brigade changed hands to COL JOSELITO E KAKILALA as the 4th Brigade Commander PMA 84, vice BGEN FELIX J CASTRO JR INF (GSC), PMA 81 (assumed command on 14 January 2011)

  The unit was adjudged as BACK TO BACK Best Brigade of 9ID in terms of IPSO accomplishments during on CY 2011 and CY 2012.

UNIT SEAL

            The numeral 903 represents the unit designation as 903rd Infantry Brigade and signifies as a brigade under the 9th Infantry Division, Philippine Army. The capital word Fight and Defend is the unit’s battle cry and symbolizes unity and harmony among diverse beliefs of every personnel in their fight towards a common enemy. The shield and spear are the basic weapons used by the Bicolanos during the Spanish occupation. The Three yellow stars represent the three main islands of the Philippine Archipelago which unit is ready to defend while olive green color depicts the traditional color of the Philippine Army and symbolizes Peace, represents the unit as a guardian of Peace and Protector of the Constitution.
