AFP Southern Luzon Commander Visits Army Units in Bicol

CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur – The newly installed Commander of the Southern Luzon Command, Major General Ricardo R. Visaya, visits 9th Infantry (Spear) Division which is its major subordinate Army unit in Bicol, today, September 25.

It is his first official visit to the home of the spear troopers since his assumption as Commander of SOLCOM this month.

Commander 9ID, Maj. Gen. Yerson Depayso warmly welcomed the SOLCOM Commander in which a Battalion -size troop accorded full military honors upon his arrival followed by the Command Briefing and Talk to Men, wherein he gave his guidelines and reminders to the spear troopers stressing out discipline of every soldier.

General Visaya, admired that after a couple of years he noticed that a lot of improvement was shown at the 9ID and the latest facilities and amenities inside the camp will speak off for its development.

This could be done through following of orders from higher headquarters especially the implementation of Internal Peace and Security Plan “Bayanihan” and professionalizing the ranks by the Army Transformation Road Map (ATR) which is of great help to its mission accomplishment more so, serving the Bicolanos.

He stressed that insurgency situation here in Bicol is far behind compared to the previous years that the local insurgents will be irrelevant in the coming years, thus the soldiers will now focus on development in the countryside.

Meanwhile, the SOLCOM Commander graced the Opening of the Shoot Fest by firing his pistol as the ceremonial shoot which is one of the Pre-Anniversary activities of 9ID. Subsequent  to his visit at Headquarters, 9ID he will also be visiting 901st Brigade in Albay and 903rd Brigade in Sorsogon.

Major General Visaya has also served for the Bicolanos when he was then the Brigade Commander of the 901st Infantry Brigade covering Albay and Catanduanes provinces in 2012.
