Firearms Recovered After Army-NPA Clash in Albay

 

 

CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur – An encounter between joint elements of 2IB, 83IB, 22IB and 5th RPSB led by 1Lt Dennis Monta and more or less 9 New People's Army led by Diomedes Apimado alyas DELIO transpired at Brgy Moroponros, Oas, Albay at about 2:10pm, November 10.

The firefight lasted for more than 20 minutes which resulted to the discovery of an enemy encampment covering more or less 500 square meters situated between steep slopes nearby a creek leading to a river line. It was later confirmed that inside the camp is a concealed bleacher-type Anahaw hutment with L-shaped bench enough for 15-20 persons and one small bedroom.

The NPAs scampered leaving two high-powered firearms (one M16 rifle and one M653 rifle), one cal. 45 pistol, several war paraphernalia, voluminous subversive documents and personal belongings. There were no casualties from the government troops while indications of wounded withdrawing NPAs were seen in the area.

During pursuit operations, a certain Socrates Rempillo, 52 y/o and Ronnie Rempillo, 35 y/o were seen by the Army troops at the vicinity.  Upon knowing that the said persons are farmers and residents of Oas, Albay, 2nd Infantry Battalion notified Mayor Gregorio Ricarte and coordinated for the custodial turn-over of the said farmers for stress debriefing, notification of their immediate family members and further necessary assistance.

Ltc Perfecto P Peñaredondo, Commanding Officer of 2IB is thankful for those who cooperated and helped in the said incident particularly to the local government for their continuous support in our campaign against insurgency. The turn-over was anchored on the principle of shared responsibility between the local government units and other law enforcement agencies.

BGen Ferdinand F Quidilla, 9ID Commander lauded the troops on the recent encounter which will stop the rebel group in recruiting innocent civilians in far flung barangays. The Philippine Army in Albay will be continuing its efforts for a peaceful province.
