9ID Sends its Best Battalion to Help Thwart Threat Groups in Mindanao

CAMP ELIAS ANGELES Pili, Camarines Sur- The 42nd Infantry Battalion of the 9th Infantry Division of Philippine Army in Bicol under LTC Joselito P Pastrana is all set for deployment in Mindanao after a Send-off Ceremony presided by BGen Ferdinand F Quidilla, 9ID Commander with PCSUPT August M Marquez Jr, CEO VI, Acting Regional Director of Police Regional Office 5 as Keynote Speaker at Naga Airport, San Jose, Pili, Camarines Sur, November 28.

The Ceremony was attended by Col Amador T Tabuga Jr, Commander of 902nd Infantry Brigade and 9ID Multi-Sectoral Advisory Board (MSAB) member who gave their Farewell remarks. It is a part of a military tradition to provide a formal venue for the Officers, men, and dependents of 9ID to bid farewell to the 42IB troops.

The Battalion was airlifted via C130 A/C from Naga Airport to Pagadian City Airport while the logistics and other heavy impediments was transported earlier yesterday, November 27 via Philippine Navy vessel from Pasacao Seaport, Pasacao, Camarines Sur to Pagadian Seaport, Pagadian City and an advance/quartering party was airlifted by a C130 A/C on November 26.

42IB was redeployed to WESMINCOM AOR to augment with the forces who are conducting combat operations in the ZAMBASULTA (Zamboanga, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi) area in compliance to the President’s directive to step-up the Campaign against different threat groups in Mindanao.

The 901st Infantry Brigade covering the provinces of Albay and Catanduanes will assume responsibility for the Internal Security Operations over the 4th and 5th districts of Camarines Sur and one Reconnaissance Company will also assume the vacated area of 42IB in addition to 901st Brigade units.

Meanwhile, PCSUPT Marquez said that he is confident that the 42IB is capable enough to face the challenges in their new mission as being adjudged as the Best Battalion of 9ID. He wishes all the luck for the Officers and men of said Battalion and he is expecting for its safe return.

According to BGen Quidilla, the redeployment of 42IB will not affect the counter-insurgency campaign of 9ID since Camarines Sur is now a peaceful province which was declared as Conflict Manageable and Ready for Further Development (CMRD) 2nd quarter this year.

The 9ID is committed to maintain its operational readiness even with the realignment of 42IB to Western Mindanao.
