Army’s Community Support Programs Launch in Masbate



CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur—The Philippine Army together with the Local Government Units formally launched its Community Support Program (CSP) in the province of Masbate in the two separate Send Off Ceremonies conducted in the towns of Aroroy and Baleno both of Masbate, Monday, February 12.

The said ceremonies signify the start of the CSP that aims to build resilient communities, especially on areas affected by conflicts and disasters.

Initiated by the 2nd Infantry Battalion, the program is poised to transform the conflict-affected areas into progressive and sustainable communities. Through the collective and collaborative efforts of the 9th Infantry Division, LGUs and line agencies, programs will be integrated to kindle economic growth and address the fundamental issues being confronted in the selected barangays.

Received and welcomed by the local officials and residents of Aroroy, Hon. Arturo B. Virtucio, Municipal Mayor, graced the said ceremony in his town . He expressed his full trust and confidence to the soldiers from whom he expects to work as their partner in community development and peace building.

Meanwhile in Baleno, Hon. Marites Dela Rosa, Acting Mayor, likewise received the CSP Teams and gave them assurance that local government will fully support the soldiers' activities.

Recognizing the importance of delivery of the basic services to secure Masbatenos from poverty and other major social issues, the 2IB is geared to collaborate with key stakeholders to uplift economic conditions and achieve sustainable peace in the said towns utilizing available programs of the government. This effort also aims to complement the military operations being exerted by the unit to address the security threats being perpetrated by the communist terrorists.

Currently, six CSP teams are deployed in the said areas catering the six barangays of Aroroy namely Concepcion, Capsay, Pangle, Balite, Manamok, and Managanaga and four (4) barangays from Baleno namely Potosan, Eastern Capsay, Banase, and Gabi.

As the CSP create significant headway in reaching out to communities, the Command under the leadership of Maj. Gen. Jesus A. Manangquil Jr, vows to continue to be catalyst of development in the region.

According to him, “CSP deployments are designed to expedite government’s development programs by unveiling issues and concerns within the localities that are needed to be addressed. We are geared to facilitate solutions for those identified problems through the convergence of efforts of different government agencies. Basically, peace and development as well as sustainability and resiliency of communities are core purpose of the program”.

Along this line, he calls out for the support of every Masbateno to help with the initiative as it is already proven to be effective in other areas of Bicol Region.
