NPA Killed, 2 Firearms Confiscated in Cam. Sur Encounter



CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur— Another firefight between the government troops and members of the NPA terrorist group transpired in Sitio Pagsurungan, Brgy Lidong, Garchitorena, Camarines Sur, Friday morning, May 25.

According to Lt. Col. Tommy A. Deliva, Commanding Officer of 83rd IB, the encounter ensued when the operating troops from Charlie Company of said unit were sent to the area to verify the alleged presence of the terrorists after receiving reports from local residents.

The NPA terrorist group suffered one casualty from the encounter as they were outmaneuvered by the soldiers during the exchange of fire. The incident resulted to the confiscation of three high powered firearms and two improvised explosives. There was no casualty on the government side while follow up operation has been launched to go after the fleeing armed group.

Maj. Gen. Jesus A Manangquil Jr. lauded the cooperation of the local residents in giving timely information that served as key for the successful operation conducted. He also added that this Command will not loosen up its security stance to prevent terrorists from launching attacks against vulnerable people and communities.

Meanwhile, the Command also expressed its deepest sympathy to the bereaved family of the lone casualty in the said clash. With this, the Commander, 9ID once again called upon the remaining NPA members to lay down their arms and abandon the armed struggle so that peace and development in the region will be attained. He added that the use of violence to effect change is not the best solution to address societal issues and concerns. Further, he encouraged the NPAs to avail the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) being offered by our government to participate in developmental initiatives that will really make positive change in our society.
