AFP, PNP, COMELEC Meet to Ensure the Success of May 2019 Polls



CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur--The Joint Task Force Bicolandia, PNP-Police Regional Office 5 and the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) convened for the 2nd Regional Joint Peace and Security Coordinating Committee (RJPSCC) at Camp Simeon A Ola, Legazpi City, Thursday, February 7.

The main purpose of the activity was to fine-tune all the coordinations, security plans and to proactively respond to the mission at hand by ensuring peaceful, orderly, and fair 2019 midterm election.

The tri-agency conference was attended by the Commissioner of COMELEC Control Committee- Comm. Antonio T. Kho Jr, Regional Director of COMELEC V- Atty. Ma. Juana Valesa, representative of Commander JTF Bicolandia Brig. Gen. Peale Jon L. Bondoc AFP, and the Regional Director of PNP-PRO5, Chief Supt. Arnel Escobal. Also present in the meeting were the different COMELEC Provincial Supervisors, line unit commanders of JTF Bicolandia, and PNP Provincial and City Directors. 

The meeting’s agenda was regarding security preparation for the upcoming election wherein the involved agencies had extensive discussions on the action plans for the anticipated events and scenarios geared to build a more responsive contingency plan. In addition, the body tackled the pre-determined province and localities included in the Election Watchlist Areas (EWAS) for initial validation.

Also tackled in the meeting were updates on the implementation of COMELEC Resolution 10479 which specified the calendar of activities and periods of certain prohibited acts in connection with 2019 National and Local Polls. The implementation of the Special Task Force “Daraga” was discussed to guarantee that all requirements for involved agencies will be complied. Especially, that the municipality was placed under COMELEC control following the slay of Ako Bikol Rep. Rodel Batocabe last December 2018.

The following day, Comm. Kho conducted a special meeting with the members of Special Task Force and Quick Reaction Teams at the COMELEC Regional Office in Legazpi City.

The Commander of Southern Luzon Command Maj. Gen. Gilbert I. Gapay AFP graced his presence to ensure that the AFP units in Bicol Region will actively partake and conduct proactive measures to preempt possible outbreak of violence that can be perpetrated by lawless elements and political rivals.

In the statement of Commander, JTF Bicolandia under Maj. Gen. Fernando T. Trinidad AFP, “all units under the JTF Bicolandia will actively participate in all effort to further synergize the AFP-PNP plans and actions to deter threat groups and criminal elements from disrupting and influencing the upcoming election”. Further, the Commander said that the success of the 2019 Midterm Election is on top priority of JTF Bicolandia to protect the democratic process being enjoyed by every Bicolano.
