Another CNT Surrenders in Masbate

CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur - Another member of the CPP-NPA Terrorist (CNT) Group voluntarily surrendered to the authorities in Barangay Igang, Masbate City around 3:00pm, Wednesday, February 27.

The said CNT member was identified as alyas Jo of Platon 2, Larangan 1, Komiteng Probinsya 4 of the Bicol Regional Party Committee (BRPC).

In his return to the folds of the law, the former rebel (FR) also surrendered his cal. 45 pistol and homemade shot gun with magazine. The said firearms were turned-over to Masbate Police Provincial Office for proper disposition.

Maj. Gen. Fernando T. Trinidad AFP, Commander of Joint Task Force Bicolandia said that the surge of surrenderees in Masbate was a clear indication that many of CNT members already realized the futility of the armed struggle.

Among the reasons being cited by those FRs who returned to the path of peace are the following: corruption within the communist group, inconsistencies in their propaganda, failure to fulfill the "SUPAMIL" or suportang pamilya, and the relentless operations being conducted by the soldiers in the areas identified as their Guerilla Bases.

Maj. Gen. Trinidad assured that the said FR will receive appropriate assistance through the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) to include the renumeration of the surrendered firearms. He also emphasized that the lines of communication for those CNT members who want to surrender and take the opportunity to abandon the armed struggle are open.

He further encouraged the CNT members to embrace the life of peace and prosperity with their respective family rather than continue the violent struggle with the communist terrorists.

It can be recalled that two rebels also voluntarily surrendered to the 2nd Infantry (Second to None) Battalion at Barangay Bacolod, Milagros, Masbate last January 26.
