903rd Bde Disaster Response Tm Helps Rescue Stranded Passengers.

The Army Disaster Response Team joined efforts with members of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Philippine National Police (PNP) and Provincial Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office (SPDRRMO) in rescuing over 130 passengers stranded along a flooded highway in Donsol, Sorsogon.
According to Colonel Joselito E. Kakilala, Commander of 903rd Infantry (Fight and Defend) Brigade, Philippine Army, the Disaster Response Team of the Brigade and the 31st Infantry Battalion together with six members of the Cafgu Active Auxiliary (CAA) of Alpha Company, 22nd Infantry Battalion were immediately dispatched at 8:00 o’clock in the morning today following the receipt of an information from SPDRRMO about the flooding at P-5 Barangay Gura, Donsol, Sorsogon. He said that the Army is able to respond immediately and accordingly to any kind of disaster in the province of Sorsogon because of the close coordination and collaboration they have established and maintained with the SPDRRMO and other Disaster Response Teams in the province. He further said that brigade has a fully organized and well equipped Disaster Response Team that is on the alert round the clock to respond to any kind of eventuality.
Captain John C. Babia who led the 903rd Infantry Brigade and the 31st Infantry Battalion Rescue Teams said that the vehicles going in and out of Donsol cannot cross the 500-meter stretch of the flooded highway at Brgy. Gura as the water had reached as high as 3 meters due to the 2-day continuous heavy rain. “The SPDRRMO dispatched rubber boats to ferry the stranded passengers across the flooded highway while the Army assisted in the transport of the passengers”, Captain Babia said. He also said that there was no reported casualty in the flooding incident.
Relatedly, Captain Babia’s team also assisted the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Pilar, Sorosogon yesterday in evacuating at least 120 families at Brgy Putiao, Pilar Sorsogon after said barangay was also flooded.
