Soldiers Avail Absentee Voting

 

 

CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur--- The soldiers assigned in headquarters 9th Infantry (Spear) Division and nearby units casted their votes for 2019 Midterm Election through the local absentee voting here, Monday, May 1.

A total of 247 personnel of 9ID were approved by the Commission on Election (COMELEC) to take part in the electoral process by selecting the candidates for the senatorial posts and partylist representatives.

Pursuant to Republic Act No. 7166 and Executive Order No. 157, Local Absentee Voting (LAV) is available for the members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, and other government personnel who will be on official duty comes election day.

It can be recalled that the three-day local absentee voting activity started on Monday (April 29) and will end on Wednesday (May 1) to accommodate the applicants who are qualified to vote. The COMELEC-Pili headed by Mr. Arnel Anonuevo facilitated the activity for the Spear Troopers.

According to the statement of Maj. Gen. Fernando T. Trinidad, Commander 9ID, "the soldiers were encouraged to avail the Local Absentee Voting (LAV) since they will be deployed for election duty. However, those personnel who are available on May 13 are also encourage to cast their votes in the place where they are registered voters".

He further emphasized the importance of the activity as an exercise of democratic right to ‘suffrage’ of every Filipino citizen including soldiers. Along this line, Maj. Gen. Trinidad reminded every Spear Troopers to be apolitical and exercise neutrality during the election period.

“We will see to it that soldiers will not violate the rules and regulations set forth for the election specifically for being non-partisan” he added.
