CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, San Jose, Pili, Camarines Sur-Barely a week after the excellent implementation of security measures for the recently concluded 2019 midterm polls, it is another jam-packed week for the 9th Infantry Division (9ID) Philippine Army as the National Maintenance Week or famously known as “Brigada Eskwela” kicks off.

Armed not with guns but with brooms, bolo and other cleaning materials, Spear Troopers actively participate in the Brigada Eskwela being conducted in the different schools in the whole Bicol Region since its opening last May 20, 2019.

As of this writing, different line units were able to give manpower assistance to almost 200 schools in the region while a hundred more are expected to receive help from the troops before it close today, May 25.

In the 4th district of Camarines Sur, aside from assisting the schools through the usual carpentry services, repainting of school buildings, repairs of different facilities and clean-up drives, soldiers in full uniform were able to inspire young pupils to study hard and achieve their dreams of being a soldier too.

According to 2Lt. Stephanie Shane Albina of the 83rd Infantry Battalion (IB) located in the town of Tigaon, young kids were very happy to see soldiers helping their parents, teachers and other volunteers during the activity.

She added that they also distributed Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) leaflets as part of their awareness campaign.

E-CLIP is one of the programs of the government for former rebels who decided to return to the folds of the law.

The 22nd Infantry Battalion on the other hand, gave two bags of cements, gravel and sand to some of the schools.

Brigada Eskwela is an annual campaign of the Department Education (DepEd) which aims to beautify the schools, make it disaster resilient and safe prior to the opening of classes in June.

This year’s theme is “Matatag na Bayan Para sa Maunlad na Paaralan” which encourages not just the teachers, parents and students but everyone in the community to take part in this important undertaking.

It is believed that convenient school environment motivates students to go to school and even embolden the members of the out of school youth to pursue their studies.

Brigada Eskwela for 9ID is an avenue for bayanihan that is why, yearly, it actively joins in this endeavour to contribute in providing quality education for the Filipino Youth.
